Aluminium Sliding Doors for Oman & the UAE

A well-built sliding door opens a living room onto a terrace, garden or sea view without a swinging leaf getting in the way. Alminyar supplies and installs aluminium sliding doors for villas, apartments and commercial projects in Muscat, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and across the GCC, from slim minimal frames to heavy-duty systems for large glass panels.

Types of aluminium sliding doors

Sliding doors are not all built for the same job. Our range falls into three groups.

  • Exterior double-glazed sliders. The T130-100 and T105-66 use double-glazed units (6+20A+6 and 5+16A+5) in sturdy standard aluminium profiles, with catalogue ratings of water tightness Level 6, air tightness Level 7 and wind resistance Level 9. The T130-100 is the heavy-duty option, carrying panels of up to 300 kg.
  • Slim sliders. The 16 Slim Sliding Door has an ultra-slim frame that maximises the glass area, with a 5+12A+5 double-glazed unit and a 2.5 mm wall. It comes in Black or White only, for a clean contemporary look.
  • Aluminium and glass sliders with 8 mm tempered glass. The TL8 and 45 systems use single 8 mm tempered safety glass with three frame width options and wood-grain finishes. They are ideal for interior partitions, kitchens, dressing rooms and shaded or semi-outdoor areas rather than the main thermal envelope.

If you need a fully thermally broken sliding door for a large, sun-exposed opening, look at our lift & slide systems, the T127-76 and T127-90.

How to choose a sliding door

Start with where the door sits and how big it is, then narrow down.

  1. Inside or outside the conditioned envelope? A door between an air-conditioned room and the outdoors needs double glazing as a minimum; one between two interior spaces can use 8 mm tempered glass.
  2. Panel size and weight. Large panels are heavy. The T130-100 is rated for panels of up to 300 kg on a reinforced heavy-duty roller system; standard residential openings are well served by the T105-66 with its 66 mm sash. For the very largest panels, lift & slide is the better mechanism.
  3. Sightlines. If maximum glass and thin frames are the design priority, the 16 Slim system is built for exactly that.
  4. Wall thickness. Thicker profiles stay straighter over wide spans. Our sliding doors range from 2.0 mm (TL8, T105-66) to 2.5 mm (45, 16) and 3.0 mm (T130-100).
  5. Number of tracks. Two-track doors give a 50 % opening; three or more tracks open a larger share of the wall. The frame width options on the TL8, 45 and 16 give flexibility in the layout, which we confirm in the shop drawings.
  6. Threshold. Discuss a flush or low threshold for indoor–outdoor continuity, balanced against drainage for exposed terraces.

The T130-100 and T105-66 carry catalogue ratings of water tightness Level 6, air tightness Level 7 and wind resistance Level 9. The 45, 16 and TL8 accept MAIBAHO, CMECH, VBH and OPK hardware.

Quick guide: choose the T130-100 for hotels, commercial buildings and large villa openings; the T105-66 for everyday villa and apartment doors; the 16 Slim when minimal frames are the priority; and the TL8 or 45 for interiors and shaded spaces where a warm wood-grain look or a robust glass partition is wanted.

Sliding doors in Gulf conditions

Sliding doors are the most exposed moving element on most villas, so local conditions deserve attention.

  • Sand in the track. Wind-blown sand and dust collect in the bottom track and wear rollers. Choose a well-designed track with good drainage, keep it vacuumed, and consider a covered terrace or canopy for doors facing the prevailing wind.
  • Heat gain through large glass. A big sliding door is effectively a glass wall. On west- or south-facing terraces in Muscat, Dubai or Abu Dhabi, use solar-control double glazing and external shading; for the largest sun-exposed openings, a thermally broken lift & slide door is the stronger choice.
  • Salt air. Beachfront villas and towers on the coast of Oman and the UAE need a durable powder-coated finish, stainless fixings and regular fresh-water rinsing of frames and tracks.
  • Wind on high floors. Balcony doors on towers face higher wind pressures. The heavy-duty T130-100, with its 3.0 mm profile and catalogue wind resistance Level 9, is suited to high-rise applications, but sizes should always be checked by the project consultant.
  • Humidity and condensation. In humid coastal summers, uninsulated frames between a cold interior and hot exterior can show condensation, another reason to keep single-glazed sliders for interior use.

Finishes, installation and care

Finishes. The T130-100 comes in Sand Grey, White, Black and Coffee; the T105-66 in Sand Grey, White and Black; the 16 Slim in Black and White. The TL8 adds wood-grain Oak and Walnut to Black, White and Grey, and the 45 offers Black, White, Grey and Walnut. Matching the sliding door finish to the windows keeps the façade consistent.

Installation. A sliding door is only as good as its sill. The opening must be level along its full width, the bottom track bedded and sealed correctly, and the threshold detailed so water drains outwards. Alminyar fabricates each door from site measurements and shop drawings, and our installers set roller heights and interlocks so panels glide evenly and lock securely.

Care.

  • Vacuum the bottom track regularly and wipe it with a damp cloth; never lubricate tracks with oil, which traps sand.
  • Rinse frames with fresh water and a mild detergent, more often on the coast.
  • Check that drainage slots are open before the rainy months.
  • Have rollers and locks inspected periodically, especially on heavy panels.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best aluminium sliding door for a villa terrace?

For a typical villa terrace, a double-glazed slider such as the T105-66 is a reliable choice. For large or heavy panels choose the T130-100, and for the largest sun-exposed openings consider a thermally broken lift & slide door such as the T127-76 or T127-90.

How heavy can a sliding door panel be?

It depends on the system. Our heavy-duty T130-100 is rated for panels of up to 300 kg. For heavier panels, the T127-90 lift & slide door carries up to 400 kg per panel.

How do I stop sand getting into my sliding door track?

You cannot stop it entirely, but you can limit it: choose a track with good drainage, add a canopy or covered terrace on windward elevations, vacuum the track regularly and avoid oiling it, since oil traps sand and wears the rollers.

Can I use a glass sliding door with 8 mm tempered glass outside?

Single 8 mm tempered glass is safe and strong, but it does not insulate like a double-glazed unit. We recommend the TL8 and 45 sliders for interiors, partitions and shaded semi-outdoor spaces, and double-glazed systems for doors between air-conditioned rooms and the outdoors.

What determines the price of an aluminium sliding door?

The profile system, panel size and weight, number of tracks, glass type, hardware and rollers, finish, and installation conditions. Large, heavy panels and premium glass add the most cost. We quote from site measurements and drawings.
