Why aluminium for interior doors

Interior doors in Gulf homes live with air conditioning running for most of the year, coastal humidity and, in many villas, large open-plan spaces. Traditional timber doors can swell, shrink or warp as humidity changes, and frames can be attacked by termites.

An aluminium-framed door avoids most of these problems:

  • Stable frame. The 6063-T5 aluminium frame does not swell or twist with humidity, so the door keeps closing cleanly and the gaps stay even.
  • Moisture-resistant infills. Panels such as SPC and carbon crystal board are chosen for humid climates; solid wood and wood panel infills are framed and protected by the aluminium.
  • Precision. Factory-made frames allow very fine sightlines, concealed hinges and flush, hidden-frame details that are hard to achieve with site carpentry.
  • Design range. The same system can deliver a warm wood-grain door, a minimal black glass door or a door that disappears into a painted wall.

The result is a door that suits contemporary villa interiors and keeps its appearance with simple care.

Types of aluminium interior doors

Our interior range covers every opening style a villa typically needs.

  • Visible-frame swing doors – the 45 Series (SPC or carbon crystal board infill) and the 55 Series (carbon crystal or solid wood infill, MSI hardware). A defined aluminium frame gives a crisp, contemporary outline.
  • Hidden-frame and invisible doors – the 55 Series Hidden Frame door, the 55 Series Paintable Panel door, which is painted on site in the wall colour, and the 60-INV invisible door with an integrated protective wall panel. Closed, they read as part of the wall.
  • Ghost doors – concealed-frame doors in the TL8 and 45 glass versions and the 45 aluminium-wood version, with concealed hinges and flush wall integration.
  • Pivot doors – the TL8 glass pivot door with a floor-to-ceiling pivot hinge and 10 mm tempered glass, plus 45 glass and 45 aluminium-wood pivot doors. Ideal as a feature door.
  • Pocket doors – the TL8 glass pocket door and the 45 aluminium-wood pocket door slide into the wall cavity and disappear when open.
  • Hanging sliding doors – the 45 top-hung system, with a pre-embedded concealed border or a visible surface-mounted border, and no floor track.
  • Slim swing door – the 18 Slim with an 18 mm visible frame for a near-frameless glass door.

As a rule, the 55 and 60 series are the premium choices, with heavier 2.5–3.0 mm walls and MSI hardware, while the 45 series offers the same opening styles at a more competitive level.

How to choose the right interior door

Start with the room and the design intent, then the opening style.

  1. How should the door look when closed? If the wall should read as uninterrupted, choose a hidden-frame, paintable or 60-INV invisible door. If the door is a design feature, a pivot or visible-frame door makes a statement.
  2. How much space is there? Swing doors need clear floor space for the leaf. Pocket doors disappear into the wall and suit tight corridors, en-suites and dressing rooms; hanging sliding doors avoid a floor track and work well as room dividers.
  3. Privacy and light. Solid infills such as carbon crystal board, SPC or wood give full privacy; tempered glass shares daylight between rooms, and frosted or tinted glass offers a middle ground on the ghost doors.
  4. Wall build-up. Hidden-frame, invisible and pocket doors must be coordinated with the wall construction – blockwork, plasterboard or wall panelling – before finishing. Decide early.
  5. Finish palette. Visible frames come in Black, White, Grey and, on some models, Walnut or Champagne Gold; wood-panel doors add Oak, Walnut and Cherry. Coordinate with flooring and joinery.

For a matching look, many villa projects combine hidden-frame doors in bedrooms with glass ghost or pivot doors in living areas.

Installation and care

Coordinate early. Interior doors are installed late in a project, but the decisions behind them come early. Hidden-frame, invisible, paintable and pre-embedded hanging doors need their frames set into the wall before plastering or cladding, and pocket doors need a wall cavity of the right size. Floor finish levels must also be known so the door clears the floor correctly. Alminyar works from the architectural drawings and site measurements to prepare shop drawings, and coordinates with the contractor on the sequence.

Installation. Frames are fixed plumb and square, hardware is adjusted so doors close quietly with even gaps, and painted-panel doors are finished on site after installation to match the wall.

Care.

  • Clean frames and panels with a soft cloth and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and solvents on wood-grain and painted finishes.
  • Clean glass with a standard glass cleaner.
  • Vacuum the tracks of pocket and hanging sliding doors occasionally.
  • Check hinges and pivots once a year and have them adjusted if a door starts to drop or rub.
  • Do not hang heavy items on hidden-frame or invisible doors.

Frequently asked questions

Are aluminium interior doors better than wooden doors in the Gulf?

In humid, air-conditioned homes they have clear practical advantages: the aluminium frame does not swell, warp or attract termites, and moisture-resistant infills keep their shape. You can still have a warm wood look with wood-grain finishes or wood panel infills.

What is a hidden frame door?

A hidden frame door has its aluminium frame set flush within the wall, so no architrave or visible frame is seen. Closed, the door sits in the same plane as the wall. Our 55 Series Hidden Frame, 55 Series Paintable and 60-INV doors use this approach.

What is the difference between a ghost door and a pocket door?

A ghost door is a swing door with a concealed frame and concealed hinges that blends into the wall. A pocket door slides sideways into a cavity inside the wall and disappears completely when open.

Can a hidden door be painted the same colour as the wall?

Yes. The 55 Series Paintable Panel and Hidden Frame door is designed to be painted on site after installation in any wall colour, making it virtually invisible when closed.

When should I order hidden frame or pocket doors?

Early, before walls are plastered or clad. Their frames or pocket cassettes are built into the wall, so the door type and size should be confirmed during design or early construction.

What affects the cost of an aluminium interior door?

The door type (visible frame, hidden, pivot, pocket or ghost), height and width, infill or glass, hardware, finish and the number of doors. Hidden, invisible and pivot doors and taller leaves generally sit at the higher end.
